Last week I tweeted about the “New and Improved” P90X Results and Recovery Formula; I don’t like it. It tastes fake – like an artificial sweetener has been added – and there is a distinct (yuck) aftertaste.
As the undisputed champion in my after workout nutrition, P90X Results and Recovery was by far the best formula I have ever found to replenish vital nutrients after my workouts.
I’ve tried literally 20 or 30 post-workout shakes, either buying from a supplement store or making them myself and I could never get anything that tasted good enough to motivate me to drink it. That is until I found the P90X Results and Recovery drink. It was a great tasting treat after busting my ass working out, reminding me of those orange creamsicles I enjoyed as a kid. Not only did it taste good but it contains all the things I look for after a workout (it still does contain these essentials btw):
- Simple and complex carbohydrates for optimum glycogen replenishment*
- A high Protein Efficiency Ratio (PER) blend to provide the critical building blocks for rapid muscle resynthesis*
- Vitamins, including antioxidants, to help reduce muscle soreness and assist in repair and growth*
Sometimes I’d motivate myself during the last few workouts by telling myself the post-workout shake was on the horizon.
Now, not so much. I won’t lie. I’ll probably still drink it and I may get used to it but it’s lost its luster.
I understand their reasoning behind the change, they wanted to remove the sugar and artificial flavors so that it is more of a natural product but I’ll tell you what. I’m already eating clean 95% of the time so a little sugar is not something I was worried about. I know lots of P90X transformations took place while using the “old” formula so I don’t see that there would have been much of a problem to keep the status quo. Again – I get it, natural is much better than artificial, less chemicals in your body is better but I’m willing to risk that .000000002 percent of artificial; I’m pretty sure my new “lean, mean, fat burning” machine P90X and Insanity helped me build could wipe the junk away.
